Portrait of Mike Matter—your coach for change, clarity, and genuine connection.

For 20 years, my daily work was shaped by negotiations, processes, and key figures. After my commercial apprenticeship, I started in procurement and worked my way up from clerk to strategic buyer — in heavy industry, in trade, and in media companies. I learned to think analytically, to build structures, and to deliver results.

And at some point, I asked myself: Do I really want to keep doing this for the next 20 years?

Why Coaching?

I didn't find the answer in a spreadsheet. I found it in coaching. I experienced for myself what it feels like when you work out your own solution — not one someone puts in front of you, but one that comes from within. That moment has something magical about it. It gives you a drive that no business plan in the world can create.

That's exactly what I wanted to carry forward. So I took a path I couldn't have imagined ten years earlier. I left procurement behind and began my coaching training in the Co-Active approach at Competence, the European licensing partner of the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI). At its core is a belief that hasn't let go of me since: people are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. It's not about teaching you something — it's about making visible what's already in you.

I know both sides

But I also know what the other side feels like. I know exhaustion, burnout, and depression not from textbooks — I've lived through them myself. These experiences haven't weakened me. They've shown me that change is possible when you're ready to look.

My background in business isn't a contradiction to my work as a coach — it's a strength. I bring structure and method where they help. And I bring humanity where it's needed.

Beyond the coaching

When I'm not coaching, you'll find me on my road bike, mountain bike, or yoga mat. I love to travel, and my heart beats for stories that touch me—whether on the big screen or in real life. And my taste in music? Let's just say: It has successfully ignored the last 25 years.

I'm a real bon vivant and probably a bit of a Hobbit: a good meal, a conversation that goes deep, the simple, good things in life — I can never get enough of them. Always a strong coffee to go with it and a witty remark on my lips. Life's too short for bad coffee and long faces.

what drives me

To carry that magical moment I experienced myself out into the world. Because I'm convinced: you already carry the answer within you. I walk alongside you as you find it and live it. Not through advice. Not through theory. But through real encounter — as equals, with clarity, and with heart.
